I have become fascinated with flower photography ever since I did a one day course with the brilliant flower photographer Sue Bishop in summer 2015. Some of the images I shot that day are included in this gallery, along with many others taken since - in Paris and various locations around the UK.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned - apart from making sure the centre of the flower, or the front petal, is in focus - was that the background is just as important at the foreground. So you need to think about having a complementary colour palette, but also making sure that any colours and shapes in the background enhance the image and do not detract from the main subject.

While taking pictures of flowers, you naturally end up coming across various insects as well, especially bees, so I have been able to practice my macro photography as well, as you will see!
