'Vision to Reality' - MK50 photography book now in progress!

March 15, 2016

I am absolutely delighted to be working with the MK50 team at Milton Keynes Council to create a photography book as part of the 50th Birthday celebrations in 2017. The purpose of the book will be to show readers how beautiful Milton Keynes is, through a selection of 50 images which I am taking during the 12 months from October 2015. Visit my MK50 Book page to find out more or download the press release.

This means I'm currently halfway through, having completed Autumn - thanks to some amazing colour last year, and Winter - for which the gorgeous frosts we've been having came in very handy. I would have loved some snow, but not sure it's going to happen now! Though I might yet be lucky.

I've just started to shoot some 'Spring' images, which I'll continue with over the coming weeks - then finishing off with Summer when it arrives, in plenty of time for the book to go to print in October.

Milton Keynes is well known for some of its architecture, but possibly less known for all of its parks and woodland areas - so I'm making sure to cover a little of everything. This includes a range of urban, landscape, architectural and abstract images - in both colour and mono.

We're also hoping to feature a selection of extracts from old Milton Keynes maps, for example to show dotted lines for a 'planned' element next to a shot the finished item - which could be anything from a school to shopping centre or even a lake! This will depend on copyright issues, but we're working on that.

In order to bring this book to completion, we are looking for sponsorship from local Milton Keynes businesses to cover production and printing costs. My time and images are being provided free of charge, as this project is something I am very passionate about. I have brought my family up here for the last 25 years, and run my own business based in MK since 2002, and am a huge advocate of the city. Not sure I should admit it, but I too will be 50 in 2017, so we also share a birthday, which was another part of the original idea!

Each company that sponsors this project will receive a number of books to give as corporate gifts in December 2016, which can also include branding, subject to the level of the sponsorship. We are looking to order an initial print run of 500 or 1,000 copies, depending on available funding, and the books will be distributed between sponsors on a pro rata basis.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or would like to find out more about the project, please email gill@gillprincephotography.com or call me on 07595 161855.
