A while back I was invited via Flickr to submit some of my landscape images for the Yahoo! Weather app, which mixes weather forecasts with high quality photos taken in the relevant location.
Just a couple of weeks after adding my images to the Project Weather Flickr group, and having them accepted, I’ve already seen one on the app. Considering there are literally hundreds of thousands of pictures in the group, I was suitably impressed to find quote a few of mine so soon! Especially as they come with a link back to the original image on my Flickr site –www.flickr.com/photos/gilltaylor.*
The app won the Apple Design Award 2013. This is how Yahoo! describes it:
“Prepare for your day with the most accurate hourly, 5-day, and 10-day forecasts. Stunning Flickr photos match your location, time of day, and current conditions. Favourite features:- Get all the details: wind, pressure, and chance of precipitation. Experience weather conditions for rain, snow, fog and extreme heat with animated weather effects. See animated sunrise, sunset, wind, and pressure modules. Browse interactive maps: radar, satellite, heat, and snow. Track all your favourite cities and destinations! Twice daily notifications help you be prepared, whatever the weather. Experience weather conditions for rain, snow, fog and extreme heat with animated weather effects.”
*11/15 - this still uses my old name from before I was married, as Flickr seems incapable of allowing you to change your URL, even though my account name has changed!
